US visitors were punished for their prank at the Trevi Fountain.
Italian media stated that two American visitors, ages 57 and 53, were fined when Rome police caught them entering the waters of the ancient Trevi Fountain on Friday. The incident has been confirmed to have occurred.
According to the news agency ANSA, the two ladies were detained by law enforcement shortly after they entered the waters of the famous fountain at about 17.30 on Friday afternoon.
In addition to the penalties, the visitors were given a temporary daspo that prohibited them from returning to the area around the Trevi Fountain. The amount of the fines was not stated.
At the Baroque monument, which was finished in 1762, this is the most recent incident that has occurred this summer with visitors acting in an inappropriate manner.
During the previous month, a Swiss tourist who was 28 years old was given a punishment of €550 for taking a bath in the fountain at daybreak. A similar charge was also given to an Indian guy who was 40 years old and attempted to take money that were tossed by other visitors by wading into the waters.
