A new plan is being developed by the Ministry of Tourism in order to raise the number of foreign tourists that visit the country to five million by the year 2027.
In order to accomplish this goal, it plans to establish a Tembea Kenya in the near future. This will allow it to increase the number of arrivals from the existing level of around 2 million per year.
During a function that took place yesterday in Nairobi, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano delivered a speech when she was entertaining tourism players.
“This happens mainly through participation in both national and international events, campaigns, policy advocacy, and in creating innovative tourist attractions and experiences,” Miano said to reporters.
“During my interaction with the tourism sector stakeholders this afternoon, I made an agreement to build strong linkages with the private sector and to make the travel and tourism sector the number one contributor of foreign exchange earnings and job creation,” she said to reporters.
According to the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), Kenya’s tourism industry brought in 142.5 billion shillings in income during the first half of this year. This was made possible by a huge increase in the number of tourists who visited the country.
According to the KTB, this is a rise from the 1.06 billion dollars that were recorded over the same time period in the previous year.
According to the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), Kenya accommodated 1.03 million tourists from other countries, which is a 21.3 percent increase over the 847,810 tourists who visited during the same time period in 2023.
There was also an increase in domestic tourism, which resulted in 2.25 million bed nights being recorded. This is a roughly 10 percent increase over the previous year’s total of 2.06 million bed nights.
