The world’s first attraction section based on Nintendo Co.’s iconic Donkey Kong game series has been inaugurated at the Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka. The park’s goal is to attract more tourists from outside of Japan as well as those from inside Japan.
The Super Nintendo World portion of the park has been expanded by seventy percent with the opening of the Donkey Kong Country area on Wednesday. This new area has augmented reality activities that are based on well-known characters such as Mario. The opening of the new location was initially planned to take place in the spring of this year.
There are attractions in this region that give a detailed replication of the game’s surroundings, such as a mine cart ride that allows tourists to start on an adventure to safeguard a Golden Banana from foes. The area is located in the jungle, which is the home of the ape-like character Donkey Kong and his buddies.
“I’ve been to the University of San Jose quite a few times, but I found this particular round to be the most enjoyable,” said Daisuke Miyanoue, a native of Gifu Prefecture who came with his family of four.
The Themed Entertainment Association, which is located in the United States, said that in 2023, the United States of America ranked third in a worldwide list of theme park visitors, surpassing Tokyo Disneyland with a total of 16 million visits.
Following its establishment in 2001, the theme park originally had difficulties; nevertheless, the introduction of an attraction that was based on the blockbuster film series “Harry Potter” in 2014 marked a turning point. Subsequently, the park opened additional zones that featured famous characters, which continued to attract big audiences.
